Overview: Position Summary:Port drivers will be expected to perform these services which include, but are not limited to, operating various tractor-trailer combinations for extended periods of time between company/customer facilities, terminals, yards, or work sites; pick up, transport and deliver freight in a safe, timely, and efficient manner; drop, hook, spot, or otherwise interchange equipment for loading or unloading at various locations under varied conditions. Port drivers are expected to run local deliveries when the ports are closed.Responsibilities: Essential Duties & Responsibilities:* Complies with all DOT, Company, State, and Federal policies/laws regarding traffic, safety, hours worked, and drugs and alcohol. Always wear the proper safety equipment.* Drop, hook, spot, or otherwise interchange equipment for loading or unloading. When requested, and only after given permission by Dispatch, the driver may load and/or unload safely at customer facilities. Properly secure/re-secure the cargo as required.* Maintain daily records of pick-ups and deliveries, and hours of operations. Perform DOT required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractors and trailers, and send reports regularly.* Deliver packages and secure properly signed Bills of Lading. Verify goods received against packing slips before signing bills, and work performed before signing any work orders.* In the event of overages, shortages, or damages, carefully verify the condition, and document circumstances and items in detail. Report on progress of assignments, and consult with dispatcher or manager.* Select the most efficient routes in order to ensure appointment times are met. Operate the vehicles in a manner that maximizes fuel efficiency. Perform fueling of tractors as needed or as instructed by dispatcher.* Arrive at work on time every day, be positive and friendly, and always be aware of your surroundings. Safety always comes first.* Drivers are expected to maintain good personal hygiene, practice SMITH driving techniques, and be presentable during duty hours.* Trucks must be kept clean at all times.Qualifications: Education & Certification Requirements:* No more than 2 moving violations in last 3 years* No more than 2 non-preventable accident in last 3 years* No major convictions in the past 5 years (DUI, Reckless, Suspensions, etc.)* Have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and medical certification
